My Health Journey
I had a wonderful childhood growing up on a farm where I enjoyed a healthy outdoor life. In my early teen years I went off to boarding school, where in addition to the emotional upheaval of being away from home I developed a bad case of acne (face and back). The typical boarding school diet didn’t help the situation at all.
My mother took me to doctor and I was given medication that included a course of antibiotics and a hormone pill. My skin eventually cleared up before I completed high school but the acne reappeared in my 20’s again.
By this time I’d become more interested in natural and complementary health and I went to see a homeopath; this the acne disappeared for good. What I later learned is the drugs weren’t able to resolve my acne problem but that working on what was causing the acne cleared my skin on a more permanent basis.
How has natural medicine helped you?
I now use natural medicine to optimise my own and my family’s health. This includes using healthy food choices, herbs and nutritional supplements to nip any illness in the bud. I believe a natural approach to fertility was also instrumental in enabling me to fall pregnant easily over the age of 40.
More recently I’ve been able to cope with the on-going struggle of dealing with tiredness on a daily basis as a result of being woken up nightly by a child who doesn’t sleep very well. Both my husband and I would not have been able to cope had we not had the support of good nutrition and energy boosting techniques.
How did you become a Naturopath & Herbalist?
After many years of working in education, industry and the corporate world in science and marketing roles, I decided to pursue what has been a long time passion and interest in natural and alternative approaches to health, healing and wellbeing. I read avidly about natural and alternative approaches to health and used them whenever I could prior to becoming qualified as a Naturopath.
I trained and qualified as Naturopath and Herbalist at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London. My approach to treating clients includes a combination of diet, lifestyle and natural medicine. I love helping people feel better and improving their health. When helping people with health issues I like to understand and treat the root cause of their problems, their treatment will usually include lifestyle and dietary advice to support the herbal medicines I prescribe.
How is your approach to treating health problems different?
My background and experiences enable me to relate easily to clients who might be busy professionals from the corporate world, working mums, busy housewives or solo-business women. I’ve worked in the corporate world for 20 years, and now as a mum I manage a busy private practise juggling work and taking care of my son. I’ve been told I have a caring, perceptive, down-to-earth and no-nonsense approach to helping my clients. I continually add to my knowledge by attending workshops, seminars and training from top notch, internationally recognised speakers and practitioners from the natural medicine world and I implement their wisdom and strategies when appropriate into treatment programs in my clinic. I like to use a balance of what is modern, traditional and scientific to help people.
